Adult and Youth Age Group Competition Rules and Format: This competition is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT). USA Triathlon rules (www.usatriathlon.org) will govern competition. When checking in, all non-USAT members must sign a USA Triathlon release form and pay a one-time fee ($10 for adults and $5 for youth).  USAT members must show their USA Triathlon membership card and a picture ID at check-in or pay the USAT membership fee. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each division, the top Masters (male & female) finishers, and the top 3 finishers overall. Relay teams must register using the team entry form and team roster/waiver form. Both must be submitted by the close of registration.  No relay teams are permitted in the Youth Elite and the Elite Development Race.   

Dress Code: Wetsuits will be allowed for the swim if the water temperature is less than 78 degrees (typically 74 degrees during event).  All participants are required to wear helmets for the cycling portion of the triathlon. Race numbers must be worn by each participant during the run and must be visible at the finish line.  Youth Elite and Elite Development athletes, see rules that follow. 

Youth Elite Competition Rules & Format:  This competition is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT).  When checking in, all non-USAT members must sign a USA Triathlon release form and pay a one-time fee ($10 for adults and $5 for youth).  USAT members must show their USA Triathlon membership card and a picture ID at check-in or pay the USAT membership fee.  USA Triathlon rules (www.usatriathlon.org) will apply internal draft-legal rules for this event.  This is a national-level competition in which athletes earn national ranking and series points. 

This is a draft-legal triathlon:
1) the pre-race briefing is mandatory
2) time penalties assessed as "stop and go" with verbal warning
3) wetsuits are not allowed above 20 degrees C (68 degrees F)
4) athletes must move forward after the start signal
5) blocking or interfering with the forward progress of another competitor is not allowed
6) athletes lapped on the bike course will be withdrawn from the competition
7) helmet chin-strap must be buckled at all times while touching the bike
8) all equipment must be placed in your individual transition bin after use
9) torso must be covered from race start to finish
10) bicycle must have a traditional triangular frame; wheels must have at least 12 spokes; handlebars must be traditional drop-style with handlebar-ends plugged; clip-on aerobars may not extend beyond the brake levers' foremost line and must be bridged; no bar-end gear shifters allowed; elbow pads are allowed; no jumped gear restrictions (as in cycling).  Field size will be limited to the first 75 registrants per gender.   

Elite Development Competition Rules & Format:  This competition is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT).  When checking in, all non-USAT members must sign a USA Triathlon release form and pay a one-time fee ($10 for adults and $5 for youth).  USAT members must show their USA Triathlon membership card and a picture ID at check-in or pay the USAT membership fee.  USA Triathlon rules (www.usatriathlon.org) will apply international draft-legal rules for this event.  trii.gif

Timing: If you have your own chip, please indicate chip number in the sport specific section of the registration form. If registering for a relay, the contact MUST register using the TEAM portion of the registration form.

Race Distances:
Adult race distances: 750 meter open water lake swim, 20k bike, 5k run. Swim waves will be determined by gender and age group.

Youth Elite Cup distances: 400 meter open water lake swim, 10k draft-legal, two-lap bike, 2.5k run (1 lap).**

Elite Development race distances: 750 meter open water lake swim, 20k draft-legal, four-lap bike, 5k run (2 laps).**

Youth race distances:
Youth 7-8: 15 meter open water lake swim, 0.5 mile bike, 0.25 mile run
Youth 9-10: 50 meter open water lake swim, 1 mile bike, 0.5 mile run
Youth 11-12: 100 meter open water lake swim, 1.4 mile bike, 1 mile run
Youth 13-14: 150 meter open water lake swim, 3 mile bike, 1.5 mile run


**No relay teams are permitted in the Youth Elite and Elite Development Races.

Inclement Weather: Triathlon Commissioner and/or RMSG staff reserve the right to cancel any portion of the race or the entire race in the event of lightning or unsafe weather.
